Nine-year-old Daisy and nearly ninety-year-old Veronica make an unlikely pair of friends。

Fiercely independent and impeccably dressed, Veronica has lived an incredible 87 years。 Most of them alone, in her huge house by the sea。 But with the arrival of brave and resilient Daisy into her life, Veronica finds she has a renewed thirst for adventure - and that they both share a passion for penguins!

So when Veronica and Daisy are invited to travel to the other side of the world together and visit the penguins of the southern hemisphere, they both jump at the chance。

Veronica had thought her days of new friendships, family and love were over, but perhaps it's never too late for one more adventure?

So lovely, so heartwarming and a really nice January read。 💕

Not awful。 Just, very bland。 I really enjoyed the first Veronica McCreedy and had this on pre-order。 This was a big disappointment。。。 felt very rushed and like the author just didn't have the same love in her writing as she did first time around。 Not awful。 Just, very bland。 I really enjoyed the first Veronica McCreedy and had this on pre-order。 This was a big disappointment。。。 felt very rushed and like the author just didn't have the same love in her writing as she did first time around。 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and this was equally good。 Such a lovely heart warming story which brought in lots of different people involved with the animals。 Would highly recommend as a light hearted easy read。

#CallOfThePenguins by #HazelPrior is the sequel to #AwayWithThePenguins which I absolutely adored。 I love the main character #VeronicaMcCreedy。 Definitely should be read in order。 I love how this story builds on the original and lets us get to know the other characters, I really enjoyed the new love interest。。。 I learned some facts about #penguins and also the devastating effect of #plastic on the #environment。 This is a feel good book – a literary hug。 Thank you #Netgalley and #randomhouse for #CallOfThePenguins by #HazelPrior is the sequel to #AwayWithThePenguins which I absolutely adored。 I love the main character #VeronicaMcCreedy。 Definitely should be read in order。 I love how this story builds on the original and lets us get to know the other characters, I really enjoyed the new love interest。。。 I learned some facts about #penguins and also the devastating effect of #plastic on the #environment。 This is a feel good book – a literary hug。 Thank you #Netgalley and #randomhouse for gifting me the #ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Another wonderful book following Veronica McCreedy and her love for penguins。 It made for very easy reading and was a lovely story。 The book definitely highlighted some very important issues regarding the environment, especially the dangers of plastic, which definitely have some food for thought!

I love Granny McCreedys adventures and hope to be as adventurous as her in my 80s!

I love Penguins so reading about this expedition was right up my street。It reminded me of watching Blue planet and now the new Green planet narrated bt David Attenborough。 Similar in its themes of how animals behave in their own habitat and the struggles they face with the lack of thought us as humans have with things like plastic and waste。This book is absolutely cram packed with facts and information and has the added loveliness of some fiction too。This is a book I will recommend to everyone I I love Penguins so reading about this expedition was right up my street。It reminded me of watching Blue planet and now the new Green planet narrated bt David Attenborough。 Similar in its themes of how animals behave in their own habitat and the struggles they face with the lack of thought us as humans have with things like plastic and waste。This book is absolutely cram packed with facts and information and has the added loveliness of some fiction too。This is a book I will recommend to everyone I know。 I've loved it。 。。。more

I didn’t have high hopes for this book but was happily proved wrong! I was fully invested in all the characters by the end of the story and I am very pleased that there are other stories with Mrs Mccreedy that I can read。

I read Away With The Penguins last year and enjoyed it so was excited to pick up the sequel。 It was lovely being back with familiar characters and Prior writes such heartwarming novels。 The multiple points of view really helped me understand each characters actions and warm to them more than I did in the first book。 Although I did enjoy this book, some parts fell a little flat。 I did enjoy the plot of the first book more and some parts of this book felt a little rushed。 It was lovely that everyt I read Away With The Penguins last year and enjoyed it so was excited to pick up the sequel。 It was lovely being back with familiar characters and Prior writes such heartwarming novels。 The multiple points of view really helped me understand each characters actions and warm to them more than I did in the first book。 Although I did enjoy this book, some parts fell a little flat。 I did enjoy the plot of the first book more and some parts of this book felt a little rushed。 It was lovely that everything worked out in the end for the characters but it did feel very convenient! We once again meet Veronica McCreedy, who became an ambassador for penguins following her trip to the Antarctic and saving Pip the baby penguin。 In this book, Veronica is off to Australia and the Falklands to be part of a documentary about penguins。 Her companion on this trip is Daisy, Patrick's friend's daughter, who has been treated for cancer and wishes to see the penguins as her “wish” trip。It’s a heart warming and at times heart breaking story。 Well worth a read though , We once again meet Veronica McCreedy, who became an ambassador for penguins following her trip to the Antarctic and saving Pip the baby penguin。 In this book, Veronica is off to Australia and the Falklands to be part of a documentary about penguins。 Her companion on this trip is Daisy, Patrick's friend's daughter, who has been treated for cancer and wishes to see the penguins as her “wish” trip。It’s a heart warming and at times heart breaking story。 Well worth a read though , 。。。more

Another lovely read and sequel to Away with the Penguins from Hazel Prior。 Using lots of the original characters we are taken on the next instalment of Mrs McCreedy and associates and very enjoyable and entertaining it is too。

The sequel to Hazel Prior's "Away with the Penguins" is just as heartwarming and gripping as its predecessor。 I thoroughly enjoyed every page and wouldn't mind reading about Veronica McCreedy's annual expeditions。 The sequel to Hazel Prior's "Away with the Penguins" is just as heartwarming and gripping as its predecessor。 I thoroughly enjoyed every page and wouldn't mind reading about Veronica McCreedy's annual expeditions。 。。。more

Great second adventure for Mrs mcreedy, hope we get a third

Love this second book featuring 87 year old Veronica McCreedy, whose love of penguins leads to more adventures in far-away places。 Hazel Prior has given us some wonderful characters, especially young Daisy, who is recuperating from recent chemotherapy treatments。 We also get the opportunity to catch up with Veronica's nephew, Patrick, who is digging into the mystery of his late father, and the others from Locket Island。 The book is certainly instructive about penguins, and really, what's not to Love this second book featuring 87 year old Veronica McCreedy, whose love of penguins leads to more adventures in far-away places。 Hazel Prior has given us some wonderful characters, especially young Daisy, who is recuperating from recent chemotherapy treatments。 We also get the opportunity to catch up with Veronica's nephew, Patrick, who is digging into the mystery of his late father, and the others from Locket Island。 The book is certainly instructive about penguins, and really, what's not to love! I don’t think it was as good as the first, I was struggling to keep interest towards the end。

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first story in this series last Christmas, and was so excited to get this second one。 Just like the first novel, it was light-hearted, funny and very cleverly written, as well as dealing with some very serious (and unexpected) issues along the way。 As expected, the penguins are such a highlight in this novel and bring so much joy when you experience the happiness that they bring to the characters in the novel。 It was an absolute joy to read。

2nd book of this series。 LOVED it。

Surprisingly, I liked this book more than the first one! I loved how the characters had developed, especially Veronica, and the introduction to newer characters such as the heartwarming Daisy。 I enjoyed the pace of the book more also。 It provides so much education on penguins but has also made me reflect on how my everyday actions such as how much plastic I am using are having an affect on the world around me。 For these reasons, this book is powerful。

Kelly

Delightful and enthralling。 It was an absolutely pleasure to be whisked back to the world of Penguins and the lives of Veronica, Patrick and Terry。 I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and this one in no way disappoints。 Entertaining and so difficult to put down。 A very successful sequel! Thank you Netgalley

Corey

I loved the first book in these series, and while I enjoyed meeting up with the characters again, the sequel fell short。

3 stars - i was so excited to read this sequel as i absolutely loved the first book and gave it 5 stars。 unfortunately this was a bit disappointing for me。 i felt like the story was lacking and much too similar to the story that was already told in the first book。 it ended up being a bit of a struggle to finish if i am honest。 i liked the parts with Patrick trying to find out more about his family, but they did fall a bit flat and i felt this could have been explored a bit more。 overall, 3 stars 3 stars - i was so excited to read this sequel as i absolutely loved the first book and gave it 5 stars。 unfortunately this was a bit disappointing for me。 i felt like the story was lacking and much too similar to the story that was already told in the first book。 it ended up being a bit of a struggle to finish if i am honest。 i liked the parts with Patrick trying to find out more about his family, but they did fall a bit flat and i felt this could have been explored a bit more。 overall, 3 stars, little bit disappointed for my first read of 2022。 。。。more

I will gladly keep on reading these novels as long as Hazel Prior keeps writing them and I truly hope there is at least one more instalment before Veronica hangs up her sling backs。 。。。more

Enjoyed the follow up book from Away with the Penguins, but was slightly disappointed。 I did feel some of the story lines were somewhat drawn out, but in the end there was a successful conclusion and a very strong environmental message。
